Amanda Burnham

Amanda Burnham is based in Baltimore, MD, and holds an MFA from Yale University and a BFA from Harvard University. Cities interest Burnham as teeming containers for everything. She admires the adaptive sensibilities of tinkerers, patchers, foragers, and those who make-do, and likes seeing apartments become organizing posts, lots become soccer pitches, and stoops become gathering places.

When Burnham pieces parts together she leaves the joints exposed, valuing tape as both adhesive and line in creating drawings of cities culled from piles of paper scraps. Although people are rarely pictured in her constructions, they are not absent. For Burnham, architecture becomes interesting when it is humanized.
