OFFSITE Martin Swift

Upscale retailer, Shinola, works with WPA to include local artists as part of their continued dedication to quality local craftsmanship.

Washington Project for the Arts (WPA) is pleased to announce that it will be working with Shinola—a high-end watch, bicycle, and leather good maker—to exhibit the artwork of local Washington DC Metro-area artists in their new flagship store in Logan Circle. WPA will feature four area artists inspired by the aesthetic and mission of Shinola.

The first artist to exhibit is Martin Swift, whose drawings celebrate boxing champion Muhammad Ali.

Muhammad Ali’s commitment, energy, patience, and precision helped solidify his role as a legend in the boxing world. His excellence inspired millions and his legacy continues to galvanize the dedication of his many fans, both in and out of the ring. His passion has always been an influential force behind Swift’s work. It is Ali’s deftness of stroke and subtlety of movement that Swift aspires to emulate within his drawings. Swift works to obtain the balance between delicate and dramatic that can be best summed up in Ali’s famous line “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”
