OFFSITE Jeremy Flick
WPA is pleased to partner with Shinola to present a new commissioned work by DC-based artist Jeremy Flick.
Adapting minimalist strategies and a highly controlled approach, Jeremy Flick’s paintings investigate “color systems” derived from the imitation and representation of blown-up pixels of digital images. Through paintings, Flick explores the phenomenology of color as form as it exists somewhere in the space between the physical, the remembered, and the digital.
Flick’s, Uptight (everything’s all right) is composed of 64 “pixels” of 11 isolated colors derived from Shinola’s brand identity and color guide, which are repeated across 6 unique, hand-painted canvases to produce a singular installation. While the overall effect of the work is graphic in nature, the subtle interaction of the colors, and elements of repetition and difference, gesture towards the distinction between the mass- produced and the handmade.
