50 Years of Trailblazing Art in DC: The Fourth Decade (2005-2014)

2005
- December 15 – January 8, 2006: The first presentation of Frank Warren’s “PostSecret” project distributes 3,000 self-addressed postcards inviting members of the general public to anonymously contribute a secret to be included in a public exhibition. The project remains active today at postsecret.com.
2008 – WPA formally separates from the Corcoran Gallery of Art and reincorporates as Washington Project for the Arts. It moves to 2023 Mass Ave NW.
2010
- June 5: In “WPArade” 115 artists and performers descend on Half St. SE for WPA’s parade of art and culture.
- First edition of SynchroSwim, a synchronized swimming performance art competition at the Capitol Skyline hotel pool.
- November 9-December 19: “Catalyst: 35 Years of Washington Project for the Arts” is presented at the American University Museum. The Catalyst website, WPA’s first digital archive, launches at catalyst.wpadc.org

2013
- WPA introduces Hothouse, a new series of WPA artist member-organized exhibitions, installations, and events at the Capitol Skyline Hotel Lounge.
