EnterState: Soap Making Workshop

Workshop hosted by #EnterState artist Alex Arzt. Participants connected place through materials by making soap using Anacostia river water, lard, beeswax, collected trash, soil, and foraged plant material. While making soap using the hot process method in the WPA gallery, the group learned about issues pertaining to urban river systems and what we can do in everyday life to improve the health of the watershed.

Each participant came away from the workshop with their own river soap and instructions and recipes for making soap on their own at home.

Goals for workshop:

Connect place to material through the act of making hot process soap out of elements of environment.
Explore environmental issues surrounding urban rivers. Propose solutions and things people can do in their everyday life to improve health of river systems
Discuss local rivers in context of the greater Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
